Established in 1963,
The YOUNG ENGINEERS, Inc.
specializes in the design and manufacture of honeycomb panel fasteners, panel pins, rivet inserts
and specialty panel fasteners, used principally in aircraft interiors (e.g., floor panels,
stowage bins, galleys, lavatories, etc.), but also utilized in commercial and marine applications.
Our primary product range includes NAS1832 - NAS1837 fasteners, along with numerous vendor
specific part numbers and proprietary designs.
Our quality systems have been certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) to
ISO9001:2000 and
AS9100:2001 Section 1 for the design and manufacture of precision components and specialty
fastening products for the aerospace industry. Our Quality System has likewise been approved
by the Federal Aviation Administration, and we have Technical Standard Order (TSO) C148
authorization on all applicable fastening products. We are an approved source of fastener supply
to commercial, corporate, and regional aircraft manufacturers, including Airbus UK Limited,
Bell Helicopter, certain Boeing standards, Dassault Falcon Jet, Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation,
etc.

The YOUNG ENGINEERS, Inc.
continues to develop innovative fasteners for honeycomb structures.
We have developed and tested the following new fasteners, designed for various aircraft interior
applications:
TYE4094 Series Torlon® Floor Panel Fastener.
This corrosion-resistant, plug and sleeve fastener is made from a high-strength engineering
polymer (Polyamide-imide), and is designed as a replacement for aluminum floor panel fasteners.
They are particularly well suited for high-shear applications where galvanic corrosion may be encountered,
and work extremely well with graphite panels. Recent testing using a carbon fiber faced panel
yielded shear strength values of nearly 1400 pounds. Considering that such inserts are lighter
than aluminum and are FAA TSO C148 approved, they will likely find many applications.
TYE5204 Series Floor Panel Fastener.
This insert was designed to meet the high-strength shear requirements being set forth by the major
aircraft OEMs. When tested in a carbon fiber and Kevlar® panel, shear strength values of over 2500
pounds were generated. This one-piece, primer coated, non-flared fastener also eliminates some of
the problems typically encountered with flared floor panel fasteners (e.g., non-flush and/or
incomplete installation after flaring), and is installed quickly and efficiently without special
tools.
TYE2335 and TYE2336 Series Independent Floating Nut fasteners.
This double-sided floater was designed for locations where two-sided, independent floating nuts are
preferred to mounting two inserts back-to-back, or where panel thickness prohibits the latter. In
the past, designers and installers were often required to offset inserts on opposite sides of the
same panel, even though they would have preferred the same mounting location (e.g., drawer glide
installation in a bank of drawers). This resulted in additional labor, and potential reduction of
panel strength. Our new fastener eliminates all of these concerns, and is available for nominal
panel thickness of 0.500" and greater.
TYE6171 Series Hot-Melt Adhesive Stud.
This insert, along with its internally threaded companion
TYE6109 Series, are
designed to hold lightweight assemblies such as wire looms, and can be installed without potting
compounds, extensive cure times or significant panel preparation. A standard soldering gun with an
attachment tip is all that is needed to install these fasteners which are equipped with a built-in
hot-melt adhesive. They are ready to use in a little as fifteen minutes.
TYE2024 Series Floating Nut.
With continuous emphasis on weight reduction, designers are utilizing thin honeycomb panels in
greater numbers. Therefore, we developed this floating nut insert for use in 0.250" thick
panels as a compliment to our full line of floating nut inserts.
TYE2043 Series Thin-Panel fastener.
This insert is designed for use in honeycomb panels as thin as 0.125". They are available in through-hole
and through-threaded
(TYE2046 Series) versions. With increased
emphasis on aircraft interior weight reduction, designers and users are increasingly utilizing 0.125" honeycomb
for partitions and other light-weight applications. Until now, no specific honeycomb panel fasteners
had existed for such light weight applications.
